时代为汉英翻译事业提供了良机。因而，不少人，甚至是那些对汉英
两种语言文化一知半解的人也赶上机遇来从事汉英翻译这项“美差”来了。
由于汉译英这项工作本身不易，再加之不少翻译工作者的贵任心不够以及
翻译队伍的鱼目混珠，从而难免使汉译英步入种种误区成为现实。
1未能理解汉语的原惫。理解源语(。urce坛nguage)的语义是着手翻
译的第一个重要步骤也是进行实际翻译的前提。然而，有人在对源语语义
不甚理解的情况下.也仓促进行翻译，从而弄出不少笑话来。如:有人曾
把一家“烟花厂”译成prostitutefactory，看了这样的招牌后.那些贪色的
外国人一定会慕名而来参观这家“烟花厂”的。.
虽吃透汉语的语义.但缺乏对所用英文词汇的真正准确含义的掌
握。在翻译的过程中，译者不仅对源语(sourcelanguage)的语义傲到真正
理解与吃准，而且还须确切把握译入语(target场nguage)的涵义。但是，
有些译者不知是基础和功底太差，或是望文生义和粗心大意，在进行汉英
翻译时，连一些基本的英语词汇及其含义也未弄清楚。如:有人曾把“上
海第一医药商店”译成ShanghaiFirstM曲dnalStore。这里，可见译者未真
正领会m诫dnal的含义是“有效的”，“治病的”，与医药商店的名称不符。
而且，英文药店表达为pharmacy或山ugstore(美语)而不用m战cinestore。
