我也不明白该单词意思，但看了后的英文解释就明白了，其实应翻译为“评估”，在银行，保险，投行等各类金融机构与客户建立业务关系前的客户评估，以确定客户是否有资格和能力。例如，贷款前的还款能力“评估”。翻译为保险、承销等等的，都局限了，不正确。
underwriting 应该是承保的意思吧，我也不是很确定，水平有限。呵呵
