After receiving my masters degree , I went on to receive my PhD at the University of Illinois and , in the process , began my study of computer programming . This study led me to apply to the Argonne National Laboratory in 1957 , and I am still there . I was given the job of consultant ¨C to figure out how mathematics could enable scientists to get assistance from a computer . What a marvelous opportunity ¨C and it eventually led me to my current career .
