The V4+ is far more than a video disc controller, however. The power of the V4+ comes from Alcorn McBride's ScriptOS operating system. ScriptOS supports 256 simultaneous, multi-tasking sequences, each of which may contain up to 64 show events such as laserdisc commands, serial messages, time delays, or branching instructions. Sequences may be chained end-to-end for extensive scripting capability.

ScriptOS is programmed on a PC compatible notebook or other computer by entering sequence data in an English-like script language, much the same way data is entered into a spreadsheet. The script is then downloaded to the V4+ in just seconds by connecting a standard RS-232C cable to its programming port. All the show data is stored in non-volatile EEPROM memory, which will last forever with no battery backup required. Once the V4+ is programmed, the PC is no longer needed.
